5 best sites for work bags

Jul 17, 2013

Finding a great work bag can be a pain.  Here are my top five sites for classic, durable, useful bags that I'll love to carry.

1. Zappos
Zappos wins for their incredible video feature.  For busy women who do their personal shopping online, Zappos recreates the feel of trying a bag on for yourself.  Here's an example: The Cole Haan Parker Nylon Tote.

If you don't already follow Corporette, you should.  This site is a wealth of information for professional women.  Corporette's bags and accessories tags are particularly helpful, especially for the down to earth reviews and community input.  My current favorite post is The Hunt: Interview Tote Bags (I'm loving the Lauren by Ralph Lauren Bembridge N/S Tote).

You just can't go wrong with a Kate.  Of course, be aware that not all Kate bags are created for the office - while the South of the Border Bon Shopper is fun, it isn't work appropriate.  Best to go with a classic, like the Grove Court Michelle in black.

4. J.Crew
J.Crew has become a standard for simple, beautiful bags.  The quality is great, and I can always find something that will stay in style as trends change.  One of my all time favorites is the Biennial Satchel in black, which is roomy enough to carry shoes, an ipad, a magazine, an umbrella, a smoothie... really anything you could throw at it.  The $348 price tag is a little hefty, but when you consider price per wear this bag becomes much more doable.  Quick tip: J.Crew Factory also carries handbags, although you might need to wait for the right one.

5. Etsy
Etsy is a wonderland where you can find beautiful, one of a kind, handmade items for every part of your life.  It takes a little digging, but there is always a bag here for me.  Check out the Heidi Black from TheCapricornLabel.

Roozt is a very cool social enterprise that makes it easy to purchase with purpose.  This Eco Leather Messenger Bag by UNA Fashion is a lovely take on a briefcase.  It could easily carry my laptop, notebook and clutch, and probably some flats.  Add to that the good vibes of supporting environmentally friendly, ethical, humanitarian products (this one helps break the cycle of poverty in India).  Plus, for every person who registers an email address, Roozt donates a meal to a hungry someone right here in America.  Win win.
