Alternatives to Prada's Saffiano Lux Double-Zip Tote

Mar 1, 2014

Obsessing over Jean of Extra Petite's review of the Prada Saffiano Lux Double-Zip Tote. Had to share! See her full review here.

Jean's version is the larger medium (there are four sizes, including two mediums) in caramel. As shown in the video, this bag retails for $2230. Waaaaay out of my price range. Even the small would be an investment.

A comparable bag at a smaller price point is Tory Burch's Robinson Double-Zip in luggage (what an odd color name!). At $575 it's comparatively a bargain, but still outside what I'd like to pay.

Kate Spade has a similar double-zip bag, the Cedar Street Elissa. The zippered sides are slightly higher on the Elissa than the Prada or Tory Burch bags. The Kate Spade version has the best lining, a gold polka dot print. I'm partial to the clock tower color (an eggshell white) but it would be hard to keep clean. It retails for $368.

J.Crew had a beautiful, slightly different version called the Biennial Satchel. The Biennial had the same double zip but a closed center. It looked, as my friend described it, "divorce worthy" (because her husband thought she had spent so much money on it). It retailed around $350. Unfortunately, it's been sold out for a long time. You can find them on ebay around $150 if you're willing to dig. Start here.

Olivia and Joy also has a double-zip bag, the Vail Satchel. It lacks the structure of the Prada and is a bit smaller, but for a $98 price tag it's a darn good substitute. Extra points for whimsical lining.

Did I miss any? Would love to hear about your favorites, leave a link in the comments below!
