Vintage Dooney and Bourke Bowler Bag

May 5, 2014

I found this beautiful vintage Dooney and Bourke bowler bag at a thrift shop in LA and I'm smitten.

It's in pretty great condition considering it was at the bottom of a barrel. There's a little wear on the brown leather, but I actually like the worn-in look. If I was a better thrift shopper, I'd buy all my bags second hand. Ethically, I feel better buying leather when it's been pre-loved. The piece was already out there, I just helped give it a new life. And you can't beat the prices!

This gray and brown bowler is strongly structured, making it ideal for carrying around bulky items like glasses cases. Ever played the "I'm sure there's a pen at the bottom of this thing" game with a slouchy bag? None of that here. There are two big side pockets, one on each side, each the size of the bag wall. One has a zipper, the other is open. And the whole thing has a zipper closure for extra security.

For work, I paired it with dark denim, a pair of Michael Kors nude pumps, and lots of gold jewelry.

Later, for happy hour with the girls, I added a black cardigan (black and nude always go together in my book) and paired the whole thing with this delish glass of rose wine.

You can find incredible pieces at second hand stores. Anyone have a great LA thrift shop suggestion?
