Treat Yo' Self Thursday: Review of Downtown LA's 6th St tavern

Jun 18, 2014

One of my favorite watering holes is 6th St. Tavern in downtown LA.

Their drinks are phenomenal. The two pictured below are go-to's: the Black Irish and the Painkiller. The Black Irish (left) has whiskey, lemon juice, honey, and fresh blackberries. The Painkiller (right) is a delicious concoction of orange, pineapple, coconut, a little sprinkle of nutmeg and a lot of rum.

All of their cocktails are made from fresh ingredients that look good enough to munch on.

They also have an excellent selection of microbrews. My favorite is the Tangerine Wheat (from my hometown brewer Lost Coast Brewery). They also feature a Pilsner, a Stout and an IPA from Angel City Brewery just down the street.

The best thing about 6th St., though, is the staff. We've had friendly service and excellent drink suggestions every time. Our favorite server is Rendel, ask for her on Sunday mornings.

Getting here is easy, just a subway ride away. They have a great outdoor section if you feel like getting some sun, but we always end up sitting at the bar. If you're looking to catch a game this place is a hidden gem, there are two big screens at the bar. We had a blast watching the World Cup here over the weekend.

Oh, and let's not forget the food. I've only had finger food here, but I highly recommend the cheese fries (tip: the staff orders it with sour cream on top). They're finger-licking good. A fellow soccer fan ordered the bbq pork ribs, holy moly they smelled good.

And last but not least, I found a beautiful bag while we were there. Well, it's almost a bag anyway. This beautiful little phone case carries most of the things you'll need - credit cards, metro card, and a phone. Throw it in a little clutch with some lippy, sunglasses and your keys and you're good to go!

Thanks 6th St. Tavern for another great day, can't wait to see you again soon.

This post is part of the wonderful Treat Yo Self Thursday linkup, because a night out with your husband is an important way to treat yo self!
