Friday Faves: Bryce Dallas Howard's Jurassic World Story (As Told Through Bags)

Have you seen Jurassic World? What did you think?

I loved it! I was especially fascinated with Bryce Dallas Howard's character - she's a strong professional woman who defies traditional female-lead stereotypes. Here are her highlight moments, as told through the bags she might have carried. WARNING: Serious spoilers ahead!

Bryce Dallas Howard's Jurassic World Story (As Told In Bags)

Starting out, Bryce Dallas Howard's character Claire Dearing is pristine. She's in a white suit with that perfect blunt haircut. I'd hand her a white vintage Chanel clutch in mint condition.

Then she meets Mr. Pratt. Mmmmm. This scene is best epitomized by a Charlotte Olympia clutch in va-va-voom red leopard.

Hello Indominus Rex! Dearing's going to need some protection, I'd suggest this spiky Christian Louboutin Milos wallet (she can afford it!).

As the I-Rex wreaks havoc and our heroes get deeper into the jungle, Claire could use a hands-free option. The MCM Stark Backpack should do nicely.

Despite the odds, Claire is keeping it together. In fact, she's starting to come back to her old self as a leader. But she still needs the use of her hands, so we'll give her a Chanel What Goes Around Comes Around crossbody bag.

Let's talk about those heels. I've heard so much about how the heels are a slap in the face, a let-down for what could have been a strong female character, etc. But Gabrielle Moss at Slate has an interesting take - in most films where heels play an important role, the character has to take off her shoes to be "deemed likable." Remember in The Devil Wears Prada, where all the ladies had to put on their heels in the presence of said devil? In this film, Claire keeps her shoes on. And still has the character development we expect by the end. Interesting... I recommend Moss's article highly.

Then the dinosaurs get crazy! Aaaah! You know what I loved here? That Claire's hair went from perfect and straight to wavy. As someone who has spent hard-earned money on getting that perfect straight look, only to have it disappear into unruly curls by the end of a hot day in LA, I appreciated that moment of realism. The struggle is real!

In the end, guess who comes out on top? Our heroine, Dearing. In case you missed it (I know, that finale was EPIC!), Claire is the hero - she figures out the answer in the end. With that final dino domination, I give Claire a Moschino Cheap and Chic satchel. The one with the dinosaur handle, of course. Because after kicking much butt, she's earned the right to carry those dinosaurs in the palm of her hand.

What did you think? Have an opinion on the heels? I'd love to hear your thoughts, please leave a comment below!
