I will always hold a soft spot for Hermione Granger. Hermione is one of the strongest female characters of our time - she's forever using her wits, skills and learnings to fight evil and get herself and her friends out of trouble.

But Watson's newest role is even more intriguing. As a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, has embarked in a highly visible quest to make the world a more equal place women. Through her HeForShe campaign she's brought together more than a million gender equality actions from men and women around the world. I'm particularly a fan of her work on gender equality in the fashion industry.

Along this journey, Watson found so many great books about gender equality that she had to share. She says, "There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too."

Watson's book club is called Our Shared Shelf. New books are announced at the beginning of the month, and we get together online in the last week to discuss the book. The book club is 100,000 members strong already! The first two books are Gloria Steinam's My Life On The Road and Alice Walker's The Color Purple. You can join for free on Goodreads.
